CHICAGO — The first police district councils have their representatives.
For the first time, Chicagoans were able to vote Tuesday on who will represent their interests on the newly created police district councils.
Each of the city’s 22 police districts has a council, and the councils will have three members each. Some races only featured two candidates. In races with more than three candidates, the three with the most votes will join the council.

The council members will engage with community members to get their feedback on safety and policing in the area. They’ll also play a role in police oversight.
The councils can recommend but not enact policing policies.
