PORTAGE PARK — Looking for a running buddy? You can join a Northwest Side running club that kicks off this week.

Friends of Portage Park, a volunteer neighborhood group that hosts the Portage Park Farmer’s Market and other events, is organizing the Portage Pacers Running Club, which will meet twice a week for an easy 2-mile run, walk or jog around the park at 4100 N. Long Ave.

The club’s first run is 7 p.m. Wednesday. Participants will meet at the corner of Berteau and Long for a quick stretch and then start the run, which will loop around the park twice, group leaders said in a newsletter.

The runs will be 7 p.m. Wednesdays and 8 a.m. Saturdays. All paces are welcome, as well as animals and children.

The group also plans to organize different runs that will include going to different breweries, doing historic tours of the neighborhood and running in nearby forest preserves, volunteers said.

Those interested in getting alerts about the running club can sign up online.

The group is also gearing up for its summer market and is looking for vendors interested in participating. Those who want to sell goods at the market can fill out an application online.
