Matt O’Shea Wins 19th Ward Seat, Avoiding A Runoff

The Southwest Side alderman finished with more than 63 percent of the vote, easily avoiding a runoff.

BEVERLY — Ald. Matt O’Shea was reelected to his 19th Ward seat Tuesday.

With all precincts reporting Tuesday night, O’Shea held 63 percent of the vote. Far behind were challengers Mike Cummings with 31 percent and Tim Noonan’s 5 percent.

The ward includes Beverly, Morgan Park and Mount Greenwood. 

O’Shea faced criticism from both his challengers and several neighborhood residents for not agreeing to participate in any candidate forums, but easily won as he has in past elections.

During his campaign, O’Shea said he “worked tirelessly on public safety issues, improving schools, attracting new businesses and advocating for people with intellectual disabilities” during his first three terms. 

O’Shea has vowed to focus on investing more in public schools and backing potential school modernization projects in his fourth term.
