ROGERS PARK — A 13-year-old boy was shot Saturday near a popular outdoor dining spot in Rogers Park, police said.
Just before 4 p.m. Saturday, the boy was standing in the parking lot of a strip mall in the 1500 block of West Jarvis Avenue when someone walked up to him and fired shots, police said in an incident report.
The boy was hit once in his leg. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital before being taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital, where police said his condition had stabilized.
Ald. Maria Hadden (49th) said the boy’s wounds were non-life-threatening.
The shooting took place next to the popular Jarvis Square al fresco area, a pandemic-era program which took over a portion of Jarvis Avenue for outdoor dining and other events. Video of the aftermath shows police taping off the outdoor dining area as they investigate.
Trauma counselors from Thresholds went to the scene to work with witnesses, Hadden said. Hadden and state Rep. Kelly Cassidy also went to the scene, the alderperson said.
No arrests have been made, police said.
