LINCOLNWOOD — A protoype Walmart store at the border of Chicago and Lincolnwood will close this month, the company announced.
Walmart’s pickup-only store at 6840 N. McCormick Blvd. will close Feb. 17, according to Walmart spokesperson Felicia McCranie. The store opened in 2019 in a former Dominick’s as a new model for the retail behemoth, according to Patch.
“We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them at our Lincolnwood pickup and delivery location. We look forward to serving them at our other stores in the surrounding communities and on walmart.com,” McCranie said in a statement.
A traditional Walmart store in Skokie will remain open. All employees of the closing Walmart have been offered chances to relocate to the Skokie or other the five other stores in a 10-mile-radius, McCranie said.
Walmart will also close stores in Plainfield and Homewood, according to the Chicago Tribune. The company’s other pickup-only store, near its headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., is also closing, the paper reported.
