LOGAN SQUARE — If you’re looking for love ahead of Valentine’s Day, the organizers who run the “horny” Logan Square Farmers Market have you covered.

The Logan Square Chamber of Commerce is hosting a singles event 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Logan Square Auditorium, 2539 N. Kedzie Blvd., with a mini market, dating games and more. Tickets, which include one free drink and appetizer, cost $25 and can be bought online.

It’s the chamber’s second singles event. The first — called Mingle at the Market — was held in October and exceeded expectations for attendance, drawing about 500 people, said Nilda Esparza, the chamber’s executive director.

Esparza said the success of the first event motivated organizers to keep the matchmaking going and throw another indoor event. If the Valentine’s Day event goes as well, the chamber plans to host the events on a quarterly basis, she said.

The singles events are inspired by the popular Logan Square Farmers Market, which is known among neighbors as one of the best spots in the neighborhood to pick up a date — and people-watch.

The market’s fashionable and flirty atmosphere is a regular topic of discussion on the Logan Square Community Facebook page. People online frequently refer to the community staple as just the “horny farmers market.”

This week’s singles event will feature 10-12 artisan and farmers market vendors selling chocolate, candles and other Valentine’s Day-related goods, Esparza said. For those who want to meet other singles, there will be dating games, such as musical chairs and Bingo Boo, she said.

Local businesses will provide the food and drinks, along with on-theme raffle prizes. For instance, local bike shop Earth Rider Cycling is raffling off bike prizes to spread “some bike love,” the owner said.

Some people got coupled up after last year’s event, and Esparza said they’re hoping for more love connections this time around.

“Folks are tired of the dating apps. It’s another way to get off the screen and meet people in real life,” Esparza said. “I think we’re satisfying what people are looking for.”

Though the event is designed for singles, everyone is welcome to attend, even couples, Esparza said.

“It just makes for a fun Thursday evening in Logan,” she said.
