DOWNTOWN — The Downtown food scene is getting three new arrivals and updates to old classics.

One of the new restaurants will take over the recently closed Tavern On Rush spot, while Chicago Cut Steakhouse is expanding to the floor above it so it can host private parties.

The latest news:

The Bellevue Replacing Tavern On Rush

A “contemporary American cuisine” restaurant is taking over Tavern on Rush’s iconic location in the Viagra Triangle.

The Bellevue is slated to open this spring. It will feature a 100-seat patio, according to Crain’s. Nothing has been revealed about the menu, but it’s definitely not a steakhouse, owner Jim Banks told Crain’s.

Tavern on Rush closed in October after the restaurant’s lease ended. The restaurant had been open since the early ’90s and was known to attract large crowds for its famous Ladies Night.

Since then, the building has been renovated, though it still has its upstairs and downstairs seating, according to Crain’s. The second floor will feature faux balconies, which will open to allow for fresh air.

Chkn Box

Chicago DJ Mike P has opened a fast food stop serving fresh chicken tenders in a shoe box.

Chkn Box, 400 S. Financial Place, features seven sauces, including barbecue, xxxbuffalo, Chicago mild, hot honey, ranch, lemon peppa and Carolina gold sauce. Customers can also order the Chkn Box’s signature drink, Peezy Limeade.

The concept was inspired by Mike P’s worldwide tours, where he consistently ate chicken tenders, he said in an interview with The Black Foodies on Instagram.

Mike P, a self-proclaimed sneakerhead, will also have a sneaker giveaway on the first of every month. Customers can provide their email at the end of their purchase to receive a link to enter.

Chkn Box is cashless and is open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 12-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday.

Chicago Cut Steakhouse

Chicago Cut Steakhouse, overlooking the Chicago River at 300 N. LaSalle St., is expanding to the second floor of its building.

The expansion will add 4,500 square feet to the restaurant, Crain’s reported. The second floor is planned to be for private dining, and it will allow the restaurant to double the size of its bar and add more kitchen space, according to Crain’s.

The private dining space will be divided into three rooms designated for 20, 40 and 80 people. Each room will have a view of the river and Chicago skyline, according to Crain’s.

The steakhouse is open during renovations, which are expected to be completed this summer.
