NEAR NORTH SIDE — Police arrested three people and found six guns during a chase and standoff that temporarily shut down a Near North Side block Tuesday afternoon.

At 4 p.m., state police were following people in a stolen car when four people got out of the car and ran into a high-rise in the 1100 block of North Wells Street, police said. Police arrested one person, while the other three barricaded themselves in the building, leading to SWAT getting involved, police said.

Police closed Division Street between Orleans and Wells streets and Wells Street between Division and Hill streets, according to a tweet from the city’s emergency management department.

Three people were eventually arrested, while a fourth one got away, police said. Investigators found six guns, including two in the car.

An investigation was ongoing.
