ENGLEWOOD — A nearly 100-year-old park in Englewood will get a new field house, giving neighbors a spot to gather and play year-round.
Moran Park, 5727 S. Racine Ave., is getting an updated field house and water spray in the new year, Park District officials announced.
The field house will feature a multi-functional club room, gymnasium, staff offices and restrooms. Moran Park currently has an indoor multi-purpose room and an outdoor basketball court, playground and spray pool.
Woodhouse Tinucci Architects, a Chicago-based design firm behind renovation projects like the Congress Theater, will design the field house and water spray, according to the park district.
Estimated costs for the additions at the Englewood park are not yet known, said Park District spokesperson Michele Lemons. Neighbors will be able to weigh in on the field house and water spray designs at community meetings early in the new year, Lemons said.
“The Park District is in the early design phase for Moran Park and will host its first community meeting to gather input in the first quarter of 2023,” Lemons said. “Final project cost will be dependent on the design.”
Ald. Stephanie Coleman (16th), whose ward includes Moran Park, said she is thrilled to see “the very park that I grew up in” welcome city investment, she said.
“I have sought out capital dollars to get an indoor field house so that children can come to a park and play indoors on 57th and Racine,” Coleman said.
