RAVENSWOOD — Two brothers were shot and killed in a Ravenswood alley Wednesday night, according to authorities.

Around 10 p.m., the 17-year-old boy and 20-year-old man were standing in an alley between Clark Street and Ashland Avenue just north of Lawrence Avenue when someone in a light-colored car opened fire, police said.

They were both shot multiple times and taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition before being pronounced dead at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The medical examiner identified the boys as Johnathan H. O’Neal and Benjamin I. O’Neal. The victims were brothers who lived in the area, Ald. Martin Martin (47th) said in an update to constituents on social media.

“My heart goes out to their loved ones, and my office will be reaching out to the family to offer support,” Martin said.

The brothers’ fatal shooting came minutes after another shooting on a nearby stretch of Ashland Avenue.

At around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, a 15-year-old boy was shot while walking on the sidewalk in the 4300 block of North Ashland Avenue, according to police. He was grazed in his back and taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital by a relative, where he was listed in good condition.

No arrests have been made in either incident and both remain under investigation, police said.
