AVONDALE — Neighbors can shop for farm produce all winter at Avondale’s new indoor farmers market, which opens this weekend.
Green City Market Avondale kicks off 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at a Rockwell on the River warehouse, 3031 N. Rockwell St.
The market will feature more than 20 Green City Market vendors, including Ellis Family Farms, Finn’s Ranch, American Pride Microfarm and pHlour Baker. For a list of participating vendors, go here.
Saturday’s market is the first of many to come this winter. Green City Market Avondale will run Dec. 3, 10 and 17, Jan. 7 and 21, Feb. 4 and 18 and March 4 and 18, according to a news release.
Founded in 1999, Green City Market is a staple in Lincoln Park and the West Loop. It is expanding to Avondale after a two-year pandemic pause on indoor markets, organizers said in the release.
The Avondale market accepts Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits. Shoppers using SNAP will get $75 in market currency when they spend $25 of their benefits at Green City Market, according to the release.
Green City is also triple-matching SNAP benefits for Chicago students.
Green City Market Avondale is being held in the same building as the 2020-2021 indoor Logan Square Farmers Market.
Logan Square’s indoor market, which is put on by the Logan Square Chamber of Commerce, is on hiatus this winter so organizers have more time to to work with small businesses and fundraise.
