LOGAN SQUARE — Logan Square and Avondale shops are offering up deals for this year’s Holidays on the Square event.

Neighbors can score deals at seven mom-and-pop shops through Sunday. For a list of participating businesses and deals, go here.

Some shop owners are using the campaign to collect clothing, food and more for neighbors in need. Pasta restaurant Daisies, 2605 N. Milwaukee Ave., is offering 20 percent off lunch to neighbors who bring in two cans or packages of non-perishable food items.

Pixie & The Boy, 2605 N. Milwaukee Ave., is collecting blankets, sleeping bags, hats, gloves and fast food gift cards for the Night Ministry’s supply drive Sunday.

A trio of business owners launched Holidays on the Square in 2011. The Logan Square Chamber of Commerce took the reins last year, hoping to carry on the neighborhood tradition, Executive Director Nilda Esparza said.

Shoppers were treated to a trolley ride along Milwaukee Avenue last weekend to kick off this year’s event, thanks to Dill Pickle Co-Op.

Esparza said they hope to bring the trolley back next year to spread holiday cheer and help neighbors shop local without having to find parking on the busy corridor.

Interdisciplinary arts organization Comfort Station also hosted a holiday lighting ceremony over the weekend, another tradition the chamber hopes to revive next year, Esparza said.

“We have such unique, eclectic businesses in our corridor,” Esparza said. “The local economy obviously gets stronger when we shop here.”
