One Person Killed, Three Wounded In Shooting Outside River North Night Club

The shooting happened outside Hush nightclub on Chicago Avenue. One person was arrested at the scene, police said.

RIVER NORTH — One person was killed and three others wounded in a shooting early Sunday outside a River North night club, police said.

About 2:10 a.m., a group of people was ejected from Hush nightclub in the 300 block of West Chicago Avenue, police said. People in the group got into a fight, and one or two men took out guns and fired shots, police said.

An armed security guard at Hush returned fire, police said.

A 30-year-old man was shot in his chest and taken to Northwestern Hospital, were he was pronounced dead, police said.

A 24-year-old man was shot in his leg; the security guard, a 30-year-old man, was shot in his shoulder; and a 24-year-old woman was hit in her leg. They were taken to Northwestern Hospital in good condition, police said.

Two guns were found, and a person was arrested, police said.

At a news conference after the shooting, police urged those with video of the shooting to contact police. Police said there could be another suspect, as they were looking to interview more people.

Representatives from Hush were not immediately available for comment. According to the club’s Instagram and Facebook pages, it has been open since summer 2021.

Shootings in the 18th District, which covers River North, are slightly up from last year, with 43 shootings compared to 41 at this same time last year, according to Police Department data. Shootings in the 18th District are up 105 percent from 2019 and 139 percent from 2018 levels.
