CHICAGO — Health care company Aetna is footing the bill for free service at Chicago-area laundromats.

The company’s Laundry Days will keep the machines spinning at two Chicago locations to help people in need.

  • Noon-4 p.m. Oct. 24: Your Neighborhood Laundromat, 1400 E. 47th St.
  • 1-5 p.m. Oct. 26: Your Neighborhood Laundromat, 3451 W. Roosevelt Road

Free laundry is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to two laundry cycles per family, according to a news release.

The laundromats will also host health screenings, vaccine clinics and wellness services. There will be programs focused on childhood development, literacy and food insecurity. Everything is free.

Locations for Laundry Days were selected to reach customers of Aetna’s Medicaid plan, Aetna Better Health of Illinois, and also serve residents who live in “health deserts,” according to the news release.

“This collaboration … is helping us achieve our mission to improve the overall health of our communities,” Rushil Desai, Aetna Better Health of Illinois CEO, said in the news release. “By providing a critical lifeline to medical care, literacy programs, and healthy foods, Aetna looks to ensure care is attainable to all.”
