LOGAN SQUARE — Local brewers and chefs are teaming to make dishes with a special ingredient: beer.

And only one will be crowned “Best of Logan” at the event 5-9 p.m. Oct. 19 at Park & Field, 3509 W. Fullerton Ave. Tickets are $30 to try the food and help pick a winner. They’re available online

The event started in 2018 and is back for the first time since the pandemic, Park & Field owner Dave Nalezny said.

Each attendee will be given a poker chip to drop in the bucket of the table they felt made the best beer-food, Nalezny said. Local brewers — including Maplewood, Revolution, Pipeworks, Marz, Hopewell and Ravinia — have already signed on, Nalezny said.

Some brewers will bring their own chefs, while others will work with cooks at Park & Field, Nalezny said. A local beer will be served alongside its corresponding bites of food, Nalezny said.

The competition calls for creativity; in the past, people have made cheese curds, barbecue sauce and chili, Nalezny said.

“It’s just a fun thing for chefs to play around with local beer and see what they can do,” Nalezny said. “We’re just trying to connect all the places in the neighborhood.”
