UKRAINIAN VILLAGE — The Empty Bottle’s Western Avenue-themed block party returns this weekend with live bands, craft vendors, food from local restaurants — and a dunk tank.

Thee Best Western Block Party runs noon-8 p.m. Saturday on Cortez Street and Western Avenue outside the Empty Bottle, 1035 W. Chicago Ave.

The music venue launched the event last year in celebration of local businesses along Western Avenue, which at 24 miles long is Chicago’s longest street.

This year’s performers include guitarist Steve Gunn, indie band Floatie and Fran and more.

Pop-up craft vendors will set up at the block party and inside the Empty Bottle. There will also be games for kids and adults, including a dunk tank. Last year, Ald. Daniel La Spata (1st) offered himself up to be dunked, with proceeds benefitting a local nonprofit.

Food will be available from nearby restaurants Pizza Friendly Pizza, Taqueria Chingon and Chef’s Special. Attendees can RSVP ahead of time for a chance to win free entry to the Empty Bottle for all of 2023.
