WEST TOWN — Popular taco restaurant Big Star is opening a West Town location Monday with a menu that focuses on seafood.
Big Star Mariscos, 551 N. Ogden Ave., will serve ceviches, aguachiles and fish tacos, as well as carne asada and pork shoulder. Its drink menu emphasizes palomas and margaritas on top of a range of cocktails.
The restaurant is also partnering with Pilsen-based El Popocatepetl Tortillería to develop a special “masa-based” tortilla for the new spot, according to a news release.
The West Town location is Big Star’s third, on top of the restaurant’s flagship Wicker Park location and its outpost across from Wrigley Field. It’s owned by One Off Hospitality, which also operates restaurants avec, Publican and Dove’s Luncheonette.
Big Star Mariscos joins a stable of mariscos restaurants that have long operated in West Town, many of them concentrated on Ashland Avenue between Division Street and Augusta Boulevard.
The restaurant will seat 60 people on its patio and 120 indoors, and it will feature a takeout window.
The building was formerly home to 551 Live and, before that, Mahoney’s Pub and Grille.
