CHICAGO — A woman pushed a child into Lake Michigan on Monday near Navy Pier, according to a Sun-Times report.
About 1 p.m., the 3-year-old boy, who went to the pier with his guardian, was pulled from the lake near the 700 block of East Grand Avenue, police said. He was taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital in critical condition.
Surveillance video shows a woman pushing the boy into the water, a law enforcement source said, according to the Sun-Times’ Tom Schuba. The woman told investigators she only saw the boy drown, then said she had been holding onto his shirt and let him fall into the lake, according to the Sun-Times.
But the video shows the woman pushed the boy toward the water and then tossed him in, according to the Sun-Times.
A guardian was with the boy when he fell into the water, though the Police Department could not confirm the Sun-Times’ report, police said.
Officers are questioning a person of interest, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
