WEST LOOP — Well wishers are donating to the funeral costs of a 22-year-old man who was killed Sunday after a driver hit him in the West Loop and took off, police said.

About 5 a.m. Sunday, the man was walking on the sidewalk in the 100 block of North Ogden Avenue when the driver of a dark sedan hit him, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was identified as Enrique Martinez.

Detectives are investigating the incident as a homicide, indicating that the collision may have been intentional. No one was in custody as of Tuesday afternoon and police would not release further details.

A Facebook fundraiser has been set up for Martinez’s family to give him “the memorial he deserves.” It has raised over $3,000 as of Wednesday morning.
