CHICAGO — One person was missing and another hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday night after the second incident in a week at the Playpen.
At 6:52 p.m., officers were called about people falling off a boat into Lake Michigan near the 600 block of East Grand Avenue, police said. One person was taken to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition.
Officers were still looking for a second person who’d fallen into the water, police said.
No further information was immediately available.
The incident marked the second time in less than a week that area — a protected area for boaters known as the Playpen — has seen tragedy.
On Saturday, 34-year-old Lana Batochir and another woman were on a raft when someone driving a boat backed into it.
Batochir and the other woman were sucked into the boat’s propwash and were severely injured. Batochir nearly drowned, and she will have to have her legs amputated below her knees. She is fundraising for her medical costs because she does not have insurance.
The other woman had a hand injury.
