CHICAGO — A driver hit a man as he walked on DuSable Lake Shore Drive in Lakeview on Tuesday night, officials said.

At 7:58 p.m., the man walked into the northbound lanes in the 3500 block of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive, and a 34-year-old driver hit him, police said. The man was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition.

The man, 52, was trying to run across the street when the driver hit him, and he had “multiple traumatic injuries,” according to a Fire Department tweet.

That section of DuSable Lake Shore Drive is near a lakefront recreational area that includes a dog beach, bird sanctuary, tennis courts, softball fields and other amenities.
