SOUTH CHICAGO — A South Side high school is hosting a run-walk this weekend to raise $5,000 for its sports teams.
The 5K Torch Trail Cavalier and Community Run-Walk starts 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Chicago Vocational Career Academy, 2100 E. 87th St. The event is organized by the 2022 Chicago Vocational Alumni Association.
People who want to the support the school’s athletics can participate in the race, make a donation or become a sponsor.
Check-in, stretching and warming up starts at 8:30 a.m., with the race going 9:30-11:30 a.m. People interested in helping can participate in person or virtually, according to a Facebook post.
Virtual racers can choose their own route and time to run or walk along. Participation kits can be mailed to a runner’s home or picked up on Friday at a time to be decided at the school. Virtual runners must share a photo for the alumni association to add to its website.
Registration is $35 and can be completed online. All registered runners will receive a T-shirt, a runner/walker bib, a finisher medal, plus a snack and water. Runners of all skill levels can participate.
The full route for the race is being finalized, but part of it will take place along the school’s 27-acre campus.
Participants are encouraged to stay after the race for a community event hosted by Chicago Vocational Career Academy with food, music and more. Those with questions can submit a question online or send an email to CVSAlumAssoc@gmail.com.
