Give Local 2021: How To Support Block Club This Holiday Season

We rounded up the ways you can help Block Club Chicago, whether it be by subscribing, nabbing one of our T-shirts or just spreading the word.

CHICAGO — This season, you can give the gift of local news.

Block Club Chicago is a nonprofit, nonpartisan newsroom covering the city’s neighborhoods. We started in 2018 and have expanded — thanks to help from our readers.

Since our start, Block Club has expanded its staff to 17 full-time journalists, and they’ve written more than 14,000 stories from across Chicago. We’ve launched a weekly podcast that highlights good news in the city. We created an award-winning, free, bilingual coronavirus hotline to answer readers’ questions during the pandemic.

Our work speaks for itself: Our hotline has helped Chicagoans get vaccinated and tested, allowing them to stay safe during the pandemic. Our investigations at Loretto Hospital showed how precious vaccine doses meant for vulnerable people instead went to ineligible folks Downtown. Our reports have even changed state law, banning anti-Black hair discrimination in schools.

We want to keep doing this work and to expand to more neighborhoods so we can tell more stories.

Block Club is 70 percent funded by readers — which means your support is vital.

Here’s how you can support our nonprofit newsroom for the holidays:
