ORIOLE PARK — A police oversight agency is investigating after a Chicago police officer was shot dead during an argument with his wife — who is also an officer — while both were off-duty Tuesday night at their Far Northwest Side home, officials and reports say.
The shooting happened about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday inside a home near O’Hare in the 8500 block of West Winona Street around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
A 44-year-old man was shot and taken to Lutheran General Hospital, where he died, police said.
The victim was an officer — and the person who shot him, his wife, was also an officer, according to the Sun-Times. The two were arguing when one took out a gun; they were struggling over the gun when it went off and the man was hit, according to the Sun-Times.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability and detectives are investigating, police said. COPA spokesperson Ephraim Eaddy said the agency responded to the home.
The identity of the officer who was slain has not yet been released.
The officer who shot her husband has been placed on administrative duty for 30 days, police said in a statement.
