NORWOOD PARK — Illuminated Brew Works is throwing a Halloween party Saturday with screaming contests, blood-themed beer and food trucks.
Illuminated Brew Works, which opened its IBW Lodge at 6186 N. Northwest Highway this summer and is known for experimental brews, will serve “blood-red trust pints” — red food coloring inside its Trust pale lager, said co-founder and brewmaster Brian Buckman.
The festivities are 3-11 p.m. Saturday. Food trucks will be available in the parking lot around dinner time.
The party will have contests where folks can show off their pumpkin painting skills, robotic singing with vocoder karaoke, costumes and blood-curdling screams. Winners will get gift cards and merch from Illuminated Brew Works.
“People will get a chance to scream, and the best two will have a scream-off,” Buckman said with a laugh. “It should be super annoying.”
Buckman encourages everyone to come in costume.
Those who want to participate in the pumpkin painting contest can pick up pumpkins at the taproom before Saturday, paint them at home and bring them back for the party. Winners will be announced at 5 p.m., and the costume contest winner will be announced at 9 p.m.
As a prelude to the Halloween festivities, there will be a dog photo costume contest 5-10 p.m. Thursday. People who bring in their dressed-up pup will get a $3 can of Inner Space, a double dry, double hooped India pale ale beer. Bartenders will take the dog’s photos and post them to taproom’s Instagram on Friday. Whoever gets voted as the best dog costume by their followers will win a $50 gift card.
Buckman previously told Block Club the company is a “strange animal in the world of beer.” It sells experimental beers like tarts, sours and concoctions with fruits, cookies and cake flavors, as well as traditional selections like double IPAs, ciders, lagers and stouts.
