ANDERSONVILLE — The owner of a popular Andersonville wine bar is getting into the retail business, opening a wine-and-cheese store plus an events space in the neighborhood.

The Fromagerie & Tasting Room will open in early November next door to Uvae Wine & Kitchen Bar, 5553 N. Clark St, in the latest venture for Lindsey Anderson-Perez.

The shop will stock more than 100 wines and sell foods and goods from local businesses, including Twidley Bits and Andersonville Fine Foods. A meat and cheese counter will offer a rotating selection of regionally made goods, and the store will sell jams, butters, wine accessories and more.

After retail hours, the shop will operate as a tasting room and events space, with wine tastings Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Fromagerie & Tasting Room can hold 50 people, with a five-seat bar and two communal tables.

The retail business is an extension of the wine tasting and education done at Uvae, the bar and restaurant that opened in summer 2019.

Uvae’s entire wine list will be available at The Fromagerie, the business said in a statement. The new store will allow Uvae to expand its wine tasting and dinner programs. It will also sell build-your-own baskets for charcuterie boards, with staff helping customers pair wines, cheeses, meats and other foods.

“At Uvae, we’re committed to creating an environment of inclusiveness where learning about wine is unpretentious and fun,” Anderson-Perez said in the statement. “I’ve always wanted to open a retail space in that same spirit.”

Uvae has been in the retail business before. Last holiday season, the business turned its dining room into a pop-up market.

The Fromagerie & Tasting Room will host pop-up markets during the holiday season, according to the statement.
