UKRAINIAN VILLAGE — Western Avenue is famously Chicago’s longest street — and now the Empty Bottle is throwing a block party in its honor.
The inaugural Thee Best Western Block Party kicks off at 12 p.m. Saturday on Cortez Street and Western Avenue outside the Empty Bottle.
The event will feature local bands as well as partnerships with businesses up and down Western, many of which opened during the pandemic like Jeff and Judes deli and Taqueria Chingon.
“There’s all these amazing businesses up and down Western Avenue but now that things are kind of opening back up, [we] thought it’d be a good time to have a celebration of everyone that’s made it through and all the new businesses that have popped up,” said Brent Heyl, director of music for 16” On Center, which owns the Empty Bottle.
Performers include Chicago musicians Ryley Walker, Liam Kazar and more.
“The bands kind of loosely tie in with a Western theme, it’s very breezy…this is definitely more of like, we’re just hanging out outside, a little bit more family friendly,” Heyl said.
The event will also feature pop-ups from local vendors and a dunk tank, where attendees will have the chance to submerge Ald. Daniel La Spata (1st).
Proceeds from the dunk tank will benefit People Over Profit, a local nonprofit providing food and other services in the neighborhood.
