PORTAGE PARK — After canceling last year’s festival and charity event due to the pandemic, Rock the Badges is coming back to Six Corners.
The first responders’ charity event and music show, now in its eighth year, is taking place 2-10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Six Corners between 4000-4100 N. Milwaukee Ave. Bands including Wild Blue Angels, Van Halen Invasion, 7th Heaven and Northside will perform and there will be games and activities for children, local business vendors and food.
Milwaukee will be closed to traffic from Irving Park Road to Belle Plaine Avenue until 3 a.m. Monday. Cuyler Avenue between Milwaukee and LaPorte Avenue will also be closed, according to the Six Corners Chamber of Commerce, which is sponsoring the event.
Proceeds from Rock the Badges will go to charity organizations Ignite The Spirit and The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, which support firefighters in need and honor the lives of officers killed in the line of duty.

This year, the festival will host a candlelight vigil Saturday honoring slain officer Ella French, who was killed earlier this summer. Fallen firefighters and other officers will also be honored.
Since launching the event in 2013, Rock the Badges has raised over $70,000 split between the firefighter and police charities, according to the event website.
