NORTHALSTED — Town Hall Pub on the Northalsted strip is “closed indefinitely” after its owner died of COVID-19.
Owner William Bucholtz, a lifelong Chicagoan from Uptown, died Sept. 6 of coronavirus, according to an obituary written about him. Bucholtz was fully vaccinated when he caught the virus.
“Bill was a very generous, private and caring man,” the obituary reads. “Everyone who knew him still can’t believe he’s gone and feels great sorrow. He will be missed.”
Town Hall Pub, 3340 N. Halsted St., opened in 1971 and was named after the 19th District police station that used to be across the street from the bar before it moved. It’s one of the oldest bars on the Northalsted strip.
Bucholtz’ relatives declined to comment for this story, but a sign was posted outside the bar Tuesday that said it was “Closed Indefinitely.”
A message on the bar’s website also reads that Town Hall was “closed for business as of September 2021.” It was not immediately clear whether the closure was permanent.
