HUMBOLDT PARK — A family is raising money for funeral expenses after a 33-year-old man was fatally shot taking his daughter to school Wednesday morning.
Travell Miller was driving with his 7-year-old daughter and got stuck in traffic in the 3000 block of West Chicago Avenue, police said. At 7:33 a.m., an unknown man got out of a nearby vehicle and shot Miller several times, police said. The man fled in his vehicle and is still at large.
Miller was transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His daughter was not hurt, police said. His family told the Sun-Times he used his body to shield his daughter from the gunshots.
Miller’s family started a GoFundMe campaign to pay for funeral costs, raising nearly $7,500 as of Thursday.
On GoFundMe, family described him as a “fun and joyful soul who was passionate about life and lived it to the fullest. He was a loving father that his first priority was always his two [daughters], Norielle and Esther.”
