PORTAGE PARK — A local soap and bath shop is bringing back its soap-making classes for September.
Distinct Bath & Body, 4046 N. Milwaukee Ave. in the Six Corners business district, is offering a series of classes to educate folks who want to try the craft.
Hosted by shop owner Sam Davis, the classes start 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and will take place Wednesdays and Thursdays until the end of the month.
Each class is $45 and limited to eight people, according to the shop’s website. Attendees will learn about the craft of soap-making using natural, local ingredients. They will make their own cold-pressed soap and take home two soap bars from the store, which has more than 50 varieties.
The shop routinely hosted in-person classes before the pandemic, Davis said.
“I am excited to have people back in the store and teach them how to make soap,” Davis said. “It’s a lot of fun. People who come are interested in learning [and] to see it all unfold.”
After switching to mostly online and delivery sales in the past year and a half because of the pandemic, Davis brought back the education series in April with safety precautions.
Masks, hand sanitizing and social distancing are required.
Distinct Bath & Body also recently changed its business hours to accommodate the September classes.
The shop will now be closed Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays and open only during class hours Wednesdays and Thursdays. The shop will be open to the public Fridays and Saturdays, according to a Facebook post.
