RAVENSWOOD — A art gallery, shop and studio is growing into a new location steps away from its original storefront.

Ponnopozz will relaunch in October at 4839 N. Damen Ave. The current location at 4824 N. Damen will stay open until Sept. 25 then shift operations across the street.

The move will enable owner Adrianne Hawthorne to host events and expand the shop’s retail options.

“It’s three times bigger and has an area in the back where I can work and not be seen from the street,” Hawthorne said. “It’s just so much bigger, and it’s going to allow me to host workshops and other events, which I really couldn’t do with the previous, little storefront.”

Hawthorne, who grew up in the suburbs, opened Ponnopozz three years ago to showcase her artwork after leaving her corporate job at Google. She named her business after two imaginary friends she had as a kid.

“I named my business after them because when I was a little kid I was really creative,” she said. “As I got older, I lost a lot of that and felt really stifled. This business was about going back to my wild, uninhibited self.”

In addition to selling her own art, textiles and fabrics, Hawthorne’s boutique carries the work of local creators and doubles as her studio.

But after three years, her business outgrew the 400-square-foot storefront, she said.

“I just didn’t have enough room to paint there anymore,” Hawthorne said.

A larger space became available across the street between Groundswell Coffee Roasters and vintage furniture store District. She plans to host a grand opening in October. More information will be posted on Instagram.
