CHICAGO — Illinois residents can get into the Shedd Aquarium for free on Thursdays in August.

The famed aquarium is also extending its hours on those days so people will have more access, according to a Shedd news release. It’ll be open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. on free days.

The offer is available all Thursdays this month. Illinoisans will get free general admission so long as they bring in a valid ID and register in advance. They must book a reservation online or by calling 312-939-2438; walk-ups will not be given free admission.

People who book their tickets online will be charged a $3 fee.
