HYDE PARK — The DuSable Museum’s Plaza at the Roundhouse is open and in full swing with its DuSummer event series, featuring music, dance and comedy every week.
Each day features a different theme and artists: DuJazz Wednesdays, DuRhythm Thursdays, DuHouse Fridays, DuComedy Saturdays and DuSteppin Sundays. Tickets for each day are $10 and available on DuSable’s event page.
“The first few events that we’ve done, these soft opening events, have gone pretty good,” said Qortez Lewis, a production manager and staff coordinator at GoShowChi, the production company that partners with the museum.
The patio event series was planned for last summer but postponed at the onset of the pandemic. Lewis said the museum was able to put on a few comedy shows at the patio last fall, but this summer marks the full debut of the series.
In addition to the weekly event series that began in early June, the museum will kick off its official reopening Saturday with a Juneteenth Block Party.
Lewis said he is looking forward to the opening of the museum’s TIME Magazine Exhibition, for which the museum is hiring and training youth 18 -24 to help install the display.
“We’re just ready for people to come and see the work,” he said.
