PILSEN — The Pilsen Food Pantry and Open Books will provide groceries, books and COVID-19 vaccines at Saturday’s Juneteenth Resource Fair.

The groups will host the fair noon-2 p.m. at 1850 S. Throop St.

Attending families will receive a free food box, sandwiches and books during the event. Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines will be available for people 12 and older, said Evelyn Figueroa, a medical doctor and foundation director of the Pilsen Food Pantry.

Organizations and government agencies also will help connect families with resources like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

Pilsen Arts & Community House will host arts and crafts for children. There also will be live music.

Throughout the pandemic, the Pilsen Food Pantry has provided food and clothes to families in need. Last year, Open Books provided free books to children who were out of school because of COVID-19.
