BACK OF THE YARDS — A 14-year-old girl was critically wounded in a shooting Wednesday night in Back of the Yards.
At 6:09 p.m., the teen was on the sidewalk in the 1700 block of West 48th Street when three people came up to her. One of them pulled out a gun and fired shots, according to the Police Department.
The girl was shot in her head and taken to Comer Children’s Hospital. She was listed in critical condition, officials said.
Surveillance footage shows the girl walking a dog before being shot, according to WGN.
“What the hell is going on tonight,” Ald. Ray Lopez (15th) said in a tweet Wednesday night. “I’m still on scene for the gang shooting in Back of the Yards and now 17 rounds fired off in front of Shields Elementary School in Brighton Park. This city needs to get its head out of its ass & get serious about confronting gangs.”
Neighbors told ABC7 the girl was leaving a convenience store with her boyfriend when she was shot.
Surveillance videos showed three people walking up an intersection where the girl was shot. Another camera catches the three people sprinting to an SUV waiting for them in a nearby alley, according to the report.
No one is in custody, and area detectives are investigating.
