Get Vaccinated And You Can Get A Free Haircut At South Side Salon, Barbershop Events

The events are being held on Saturdays on the South Side to encourage young people to get vaccinated against coronavirus.

  • Credibility:

CHICAGO — Free haircuts are available for people who get vaccinated against coronavirus at two upcoming Vax and Relax events.

No appointments are required, and the vaccinations, haircuts and event attendance will be free. People will be able to come by the participating salon and barbershop on the South Side to get their shot, then get a haircut or a voucher. There will be live music to entertain people.

The events:

  • 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at It’s Official Barbershop, 1256 W. 63rd St.
  • 10 .am.-2 p.m. June 12 at Josephine’s Jet Set Hair Salon, 2542 E. 79th St.

The events are meant to encourage people, especially teens and young adults, to get vaccinated, according to a Mayor’s Office news release.

Channal Coleman, the owner of It’s Offical Barbershop, said the event is another opportunity to give back to a neighborhood she loves while keeping people safe.

“A lot of people are fearful of what [the vaccine] can do, and a lot of education hasn’t been given out about the shot,” Coleman said. “This event is going to give them a little more security as far as being out and about.”

The one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be offered, as will the two-dose Pfizer vaccine. Second-shot appointments for people who get the Pfizer vaccine will be scheduled at the time of the event and administered at a local hospital.

Children 12 and older can get the Pfizer vaccine at the events, though they’ll need a parent or guardian.

People do not need insurance or an ID to get vaccinated. Everyone 12 and older is eligible to get vaccinated.
