WICKER PARK — A man who allegedly brought an axe onto a CTA Blue Line platform was arrested Monday after police said he attacked officers.
Wicker Park resident Areon Martin, 22, was charged with three counts of aggravated battery on a police officer. He appeared in Central Bond Court Tuesday.
Officers arrived at the Damen Blue Line platform, 1558 N. Damen Ave., around 2:30 p.m. Monday after receiving a 911 call regarding a person with a knife, police said.
Police said they saw Martin holding an axe. After taking the axe from Martin, police said Martin attacked officers by “striking and kicking” them.
The officers declined medical treatment, police said. Further details were not immediately available.
