CHICAGO — Coronavirus vaccination events will be held at salons, beaches, and other spots around the city this week and over Memorial Day weekend.

The city is bringing the pop-ups to neighborhood locales in an effort to get more people vaccinated since demand for the shots has fallen. A calendar of the vaccination events is available online and will be updated.

And people will get rewarded: Chicagoans who get vaccinated at city-run sites can now get up to five free tickets to Six Flags Great America. Some events will also have special perks, like free haircuts for people who get vaccinated during Vax & Relax events at barbershops and hair salons.

The shots are free, regardless of a person’s insurance. Everyone 12 and older is eligible.

Vaccines have been shown to greatly reduce the risk of severe illness and death from COVID-19, and officials have said people getting vaccinated is the best bet for ending the pandemic.
