WICKER PARK — The team behind Wicker Park’s urbanbelly is bringing a new item to chef Bill Kim’s Pizza & Parm Shop pop-up: a “pizza sandwich.”
Using slices of Detroit-style pizza as bread, the sandwich is stuffed with tomato sauce, pecorino cheeses and other fillings. Customers have the option to add fried chicken, pepperoni, smoked pork or arugula, mushrooms and ricotta. Sandwiches start at $8.
A trained fine-dining chef, Kim launched urbanbelly more than 10 years ago at 1542 N. Damen Ave. in Wicker Park.
Kim and the Cornerstone Restaurant Group created Chef Bill Kim’s Pizza & Parm Shop pop-up during the coronavirus pandemic three months ago. The idea for the pizza sandwich began as a staff meal, Kim said in a news release.
“Everyone was laughing because it was so delicious,” he said. “It’s something new that we’ve never done before, but it makes so much sense.”
Hours of operation for the delivery-only pop-up are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday. Order online.
