PILSEN — The 18th Street ramp for the Dan Ryan Expressway will be closed for six weeks as part of Jane Byrne Interchange reconstruction.

Crews will begin work on an “overhead sign structure foundation” starting at 5 a.m. Monday and the ramp is expected to reopen May 25, officials said.

While that ramp is out of service, detours will direct drivers west on 18th Street, south on Union Avenue and west on Cermak to the Ruble Street ramp for drivers heading west on the Eisenhower.

Drivers heading north can enter the expressway at Taylor Street. Drivers are advised to expect delays and allow for extra travel time.

The Jane Byrne Interchange reconstruction project aims to improve safety and traffic flow. The project is expected to be completed in 2022.
