Chatham: Here’s Where You Can Free Groceries This Weekend

A coalition of local organizations — including Taste for the Homeless — will give away 1,500 grocery boxes Saturday.

Chef Michael Airhart has been serving food for those experiencing homelessness most days at the corner of 14th Place and Canal Street. On March 17, 2021, he cooked up dozens of burgers and polishes for those in need of a bite.

CHATHAM — A coalition of local organizations — including Taste for the Homeless — will give away 1,500 grocery boxes Saturday.

The giveaway will run 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in the parking lot of the Discover Customer Care Center, 8650 S. Cottage Grove Ave. Residents are invited to drive or walk up to the site, and volunteers will be on hand to assist with getting the groceries into cars and homes.

Family-friendly activities are being planned, including a meet and greet with “special characters.”

The event is cohosted by Social Works, Conscious Alliance, Gyrls in the H.O.O.D., Taste for the Homeless and Discover. Social distancing guidelines will be observed.
