AVONDALE — Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa’s 35th Ward office is hosting a community cleanup Sunday in Avondale.

The cleanup kicks off 1 p.m. at Woodard Plaza, the triangular plot of land at Milwaukee, Diversey and Kimball avenues. Tools will be provided. Neighbors must wear masks and practice social distancing. The event will go until 3 p.m.

“We’ve been hearing from a lot of residents that after all of the snow melted they saw a lot of discarded items and a lot of litter,” Ramirez-Rosa said.

The cleanup is part of a series of events in the 35th Ward. Ramirez-Rosa’s office already hosted a neighborhood cleanup March 13 in Albany Park. His office is hosting one April 3 in Hermosa and another later in April in Logan Square.

At the Albany Park cleanup, a group of about 30 neighbors picked up three truckloads of trash, Ramirez-Rosa said. The alderman said he hopes the Avondale event is as successful.

“It’s just a great way — particularly after being cooped up and isolated over the last several months during this pandemic — to get out and meet your neighborhood and do something good,” he said.
