AVONDALE — An Albany Park family was reunited with their lost dog Wednesday after a massive search across several neighborhoods.

Toby, a 2-year-old German shepherd, went missing Saturday morning after managing to escape from MedVet in Avondale.

Toby’s family scoured the Northwest Side looking for him. Their frantic posts on social media sparked a “Find Toby” movement online. People from all over the city helped the family put up fliers and posted tips.

After days of unfruitful attempts to catch him, a police officer with the 14th District rescued the wayward pup Wednesday, the district said on Twitter.

Toby’s owner Nelly Roa and her family shared the good news on the Find Toby Facebook page Wednesday afternoon. It’s since been renamed We Found Toby!!

Thousands of people were following the search, and many celebrated on social media after seeing him reunited with Roa.

“I’m just elated that he is home and that he brought all these strangers together,” one member of the group wrote.

Roa didn’t immediately respond to messages seeking comment.

This is a developing story.
