LOGAN SQUARE — Neighbors can get free food, masks and coronavirus tests at McCormick YMCA this week.
YMCA leaders are hosting a community giveaway 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday at the community center, 1834 N. Lawndale Ave.
The event, designed to “fill health and resource gaps in the Humboldt Park, Hermosa and Logan Square neighborhoods,” is being held in partnership with State. Rep. Delia Ramirez, State Sen. Omar Aquino, Ald. Daniel La Spata (1st) and Ald. Roberto Maldonado (26th), according to a news release.
Organizers will hand out about 12,000 pounds of fresh fruit, vegetables and groceries from the Greater Chicago Food Depository and reusable cloth masks supplied by Masks Without Borders. Residents are encouraged to bring their own bags to transport food home.
Representatives from the Illinois Department of Public Health will also be on site to facilitate coronavirus tests while supplies last.
