LOGAN SQUARE — Police are investigating a string of carjackings in the Humboldt Park and Logan Square area, all targeting ride-share and taxi drivers.

At least four ride-share drivers were hit with carjackings from Jan. 16-20, police said in a community alert early Thursday. In all of the incidents, the carjackers ordered a ride-share car or a taxi and when they arrived at the drop-off location, they attacked the driver and then stole the car.

Police issued the alert as carjackings continue to soar citywide. The city saw a 135 percent spike in such crimes last year and is seeing even more of an increase this year. Some Chicagoans are taking matters into their own hands and applying for concealed carry permits.

The Humboldt Park and Logan Square carjackings happened:

  • at 2:15 a.m. Jan. 16 in the 2900 block of West Walton Street
  • at 7:45 p.m. Jan. 20 in the 2900 block of West Walton Street
  • at 9 p.m. Jan. 20 in the 1900 block of North Rockwell Street
  • at 9:42 p.m. Jan. 20 in the 2500 block of West Chicago Avenue

Police urge anyone with information about these crimes to contact detectives at 312-744-8263.
