PILSEN — After more than 25 years, Fran’s Beef in Pilsen will close at the end of the month.

The owners announced plans to close with a note inside their restaurant at 2021 S. Blue Island Ave.

“After more than 25 years, Fran’s Beef will be closing at the end of the month. While we would have loved to stay in this community for another 25 years, our lease has ended and we can no longer continue the business,” the note on the door reads in both English and Spanish.

“Gus and his family want to thank all of our customers who supported us throughout the years. We wish you all happy holidays and God bless you all.”

The restaurant, located across from Benito Juarez Community Academy, served an eclectic menu that includes Italian beef, hot dogs, burgers, pizza, sandwiches and breakfast items.

In May, nearby Sabor Y Sazon permanently closed following financial difficulties related to the coronavirus pandemic.

The owners could not be immediately reached for comment Tuesday.
