CALUMET HEIGHTS — Months after the owners of Kenwood Liquors on Stony Island Avenue closed their doors for good, the building is on the market.
The store at 8810 S. Stony Island Ave. was one of several hit by looters during civil unrest earlier this year, fforcing the family-owned business to permanently shut its doors after over 60 years. Locations in suburban Oak Lawn and Homer Glen remain open.
The price tag for the Calumet Heights store: $5.5 million.
The sale would include the transfer of existing retail food, packaged goods and liquor licenses — but not the Kenwood Liquors name.
The 7,100-square-foot property has generated a lot of interest from buyers in the two weeks it’s been on the market, said At Properties broker Dylan Carrigan, who said he hopes to find a happy medium between prospective buyers and community members who want a business that will fit in with the culture of the neighborhood.
Carrigan said he hopes to meet with Ald. Michelle Harris (8th) soon to discuss what will work best for the area.
Harris could not be reached for comment.
