BRONZEVILLE — Free coronavirus tests and personal protective equipment will be available alongside gift cards and snacks at the Chicago Urban League’s annual holiday celebration this weekend.
The gathering starts noon Saturday at the Urban League’s headquarters, 4510 S. Michigan Ave. Due to the pandemic, attendees are asked to stay in their cars.

The Urban League wanted to find a way to celebrate the holidays despite coronavirus restrictions, so staffers organized the drive-up gathering, program manager Seville Spearman said.
The organization’s youth services center, which put together the event, is available to families across Chicago. But “a lot of our reach is in the communities surrounding us” on the South Side, including a mentoring program at nearby Wendell Phillips Academy High School, Spearman said.
“We want to make sure that our students and families are supported and know that we are here for them,” Spearman said.
TCA Health, with locations in Riverdale and Chatham, will administer the event’s free coronavirus testing.
