CHICAGO — The pandemic and presidential election dominated Chicagoans’ Google searches this year.
Google released information Wednesday morning on the top trending searches in Chicago, Illinois and the United States. The data highlights topics Chicagoans Googled again and again in 2020 — and, unsurprisingly, the top two queries were “election results” and “coronavirus.”
The COVID-19 pandemic has defined 2020, killing thousands of Chicagoans and sickening many more while forcing businesses to close — either temporarily or permanently — and putting people out of work.
The presidential election didn’t happen until later in the year, in November. But it was upmost in people’s minds as Joe Biden and Donald Trump competed to see who would lead the United States starting in January.
You can see the top trending searches nationally from Google online.
To celebrate the end of the year, Google is also putting out a song from Chance the Rapper and the Chicago Children’s Choir.
Last year, the top trending searches for Chicago were “CPS strike” and “Jussie Smollett.”
